Best Exit is built to need as little about you as possible. There's no account to create. Your location stays on your phone. What reaches us is the restroom reviews you choose to send.
The app
Your location
The app uses your location on your phone to work out which highway you're on and which way you're heading, to show the stops ahead, and to notice when you've stopped at an exit (that's what lets you rate it). Your location isn't sent to us or to anyone else. Spoken announcements are made on the phone too.
Reviews you send
When you rate a restroom, the app sends us the place and the exit, your answers (the restroom you used, how clean it was, whether it was for customers only or needed a key, anything missing, and for rest areas the grounds and amenities), a note if you write one (280 characters at most), the app's version, and the time.
Reviews are combined into the scores shown in the app and on this website. Notes aren't shown publicly; we read them to check reviews. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.
Problems you report
If you report a problem with a stop (a place that's closed, at the wrong exit, or missing), the app sends us the exit, the place, what's wrong, a note if you write one, and the app's version, filed under the same random install ID. We use reports only to fix the map.
A random install ID
The first time you send a review, our server gives the app a random ID, and your reviews are filed under it. It lets us limit duplicate and fake reviews. It isn't tied to your name, email address, Apple Account, or device.
To limit how many IDs one network can create in a day, the server keeps a one-way code made from your network's IP address and the date. It can't be turned back into the address.
Scores
The app regularly downloads the latest review scores so it works offline. That request carries nothing about you.
What stays on your phone
The list of your own reviews, the stops the app noticed you make, your settings, and drive logs (only if you turn on Record drives, a testing feature) are kept on your phone. A drive log leaves your phone only if you share it yourself.
Maps
The app's maps are Apple Maps. Apple's privacy policy covers how Apple handles map requests.
The website
- Visits. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or identify you.
- Stops near me. If you allow it, your browser shares your location. We round it to about a kilometer, use it to find the nearest highways, and don't keep it.
- Maps. Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, so your browser requests them from its servers.
- Directions. Directions links open Google Maps, which Google's privacy policy covers.
- Problem reports. "Report a problem" on an exit page sends us the exit, the place, what's wrong, and your note. To limit spam, it's filed under a one-way code made from your network's IP address and the date, like the app's install IDs. We use reports only to fix the map.
- Support messages. The support form emails us your name, email address, and message, through Cloudflare. Mail to support@bestexit.app reaches us the same way. We don't store them on the site, and we use them only to reply.
Hosting
Best Exit runs on Cloudflare, which handles every request to the app's server and this website, including your IP address, to deliver and protect them.
What we don't do
We don't sell or share personal information, we don't use it to track you across other apps or websites, and the app doesn't include advertising or analytics code from other companies. Best Exit isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your phone. Reviews you sent aren't linked to you, so we can't look them up by your name. To have a review removed, contact us with the place and about when you sent it.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its date. Questions go through the support page.
